Before the Descent |
Down in the Gorge |
An adventure trip was our hike through the Samaria Gorge. At an height of 1000 metres at the Omalos Plateau the descent into the gorge over scree and partial steep slopes began. In scorching heat, but always with sufficient store of water in our backpacks hiked through the with 18 km longest gorge in Europe through the most narrow place (The Iron Gate) up to the Lybian sea. Having arrived at the coast in Agia Roumeli we took the boat to Chora Sfakion. On our way we passed the small artistsī village Loutro which can only be reached by boat or foot.
